Starland County Agricultural Service Board is looking for producers interested in participating in the 2026 Watershed Resiliency & Restoration Program (WRRP). This program is designed to support local agricultural operations while improving the health and resilience of the Michichi Creek watershed.
Riparian areas, the lands bordering rivers, creeks, lakes, wetlands, and other water bodies, play a critical role in maintaining water quality, reducing erosion, supporting wildlife habitat, and improving watershed health. Healthy riparian areas can also provide productive forage while helping protect valuable agricultural land.
Through the WRRP, Starland County is offering producers financial assistance for projects that improve riparian management. Eligible projects include:
- Riparian streambank fencing
- Cross-fencing and perimeter fencing for riparian management
- Livestock off-site watering systems
- Watering systems that reduce livestock access to streams and riparian areas
The program provides reimbursement for up to 50% of eligible project expenses, with a maximum funding amount of $7,500 per applicant.
By limiting livestock access to sensitive riparian areas and providing alternative watering sources, producers can help improve vegetation health, reduce bank erosion, enhance water quality, and build long-term watershed resiliency. These practices can benefit both the environment and the sustainability of agricultural operations.
Important: Applications must be submitted and approved before any project work begins, as the program is not retroactive.
