On August 8th, the Red Deer River Watershed Alliance (RDRWA) attended an important information session and public meeting hosted by the Friends of the Blindman. The event, which focused on water use for hydraulic fracturing with a particular emphasis on the Blindman River watershed, was a great success, hosting 160 attendees.
During the session, industry experts shared valuable insights into the current state of water use in hydraulic fracturing and strategies for pursuing alternate sources of water. Representatives from the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) and Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA) explained the how flow data is collected and analyzed and summarized the management of term licenses and temporary diversion licenses to manage water in the Blindman. They also addressed a series of questions related to data interpretation, investigation, mitigation and policy.
The RDRWA appreciates the timely event organized by the Friends of the Blindman River and is eager to continue these discussions to ensure the long-term sustainability of our water resources.
